What is a cantilever gate and how is it different from a regular sliding gate?
A cantilever gate has no ground rail — the gate is suspended and slides above the ground. This eliminates rail maintenance, works on uneven surfaces, and allows heavy vehicles like trucks to pass without damaging a track. Regular sliding gates run on a ground rail which requires a level surface and periodic cleaning.
Can I use the same remote for my garage door and gate?
Yes. If both your garage door and gate use SOMMER motors, one Pearl Vibe remote can control both. This is one of the key benefits of the OZ Door + SOMMER ecosystem.
Can you automate my existing manual gate?
In most cases, yes. We assess your gate’s weight, condition, and track system. If suitable, we install a SOMMER motor and automation system without replacing the gate itself.
What happens during a power outage?
All SOMMER gate motors include a manual release handle so you can open and close the gate manually during power failures. Optional battery backup systems are also available.
How long does installation take?
For new gate installations: typically 2–3 weeks for manufacturing after design approval, plus 1–2 days for installation. For automation upgrades on existing gates: typically 1 day. Motor replacement: half day to 1 day.
